Change the device assistant app on your Galaxy phone or tablet

Bixby is made specifically for Galaxy phones and tablets and has its own special features. However, you're not limited to just Bixby or Google - you can even set Samsung Internet as a digital assistant. Each assistant is awesome in its own way; keep reading to learn how to swap your assistant.

Change your default digital assistant

Bixby will always be at your beck and call even if you use other assistants. But if needed, you can set another one, like Google or Alexa, as your default assistant in addition to Bixby.

From Settings, tap Apps, and then tap Choose default apps.
Tap Digital assistant app, and then tap Digital assistant app again.
A list of available assistants will appear.
Choose your desired option, and then tap OK.

Even if you change the default app, Bixby will remain active and will wake up when you press the Side button if the button has been set to launch Bixby instead of another digital assistant.

Launch your digital assistant with swipe gestures

Bixby

Bixby can only be launched using the Bixby button on older Galaxy phones like the S10 and earlier models, with the Side button shortcut on modern Galaxy phones like the S20 and newer models when the shortcut is configured to do so, or by voice whenever you say "Hi, Bixby" on any model that supports Bixby.

If you prefer Swipe gestures instead of the Navigation bar, you can still launch your assistant, such as Gemini or Google. Here's what to do, depending on what gesture setting you're using:

Swipe from the bottom: To launch the device assistant app, swipe up from the bottom and hold.
Swipe from sides and bottom To launch the device assistant app, swipe inward from either bottom corner of the screen.
