Can I charge my phone or tablet while using Samsung DeX on a PC?

Note
The amount of power supplied through a PC’s USB ports: USB 2.0: 5V, 0.5A; USB 3.0: 5V, 0.9A.
You can charge your device if it is connected to your PC with a cable. However, your device’s battery charging performance may vary, depending on how you’re using Samsung DeX. In general, a PC’s USB port supplies less power than a regular charger. Therefore, if you run apps that require high processing speeds that take up resources through Samsung DeX, the amount of power used by your device will be greater than the amount supplied through the USB port. In this case, the battery level may still drop gradually even if you are charging the device.

What changes occurred in Samsung DeX after the One UI 8.0 update?

Due to the new UI configuration of Samsung DeX, settings restoration with Smart Switch is not supported in Android 16. However, this feature will be available starting from the next OS update. Be sure to check for software updates regularly.
Samsung DeX has been redesigned based on One UI 8.0. Now, you can rotate the external monitor to a vertical orientation, and it supports a wider range of resolutions. Just navigate to and open Settings, then select Connected devices, then select Samsung DeX, and then select Connected display to adjust the resolution settings.
The feature that allowed selecting an app to run on the opposite screen by dragging an app window to the left or right has been discontinued starting from One UI 8.0, as part of a design concept update. Instead, you can use the More option drop-down arrow in the top-left corner of the app screen. From there, choose Snap left, Snap right, or Send to other display for alternative window management options.
Your phone or tablet screen will turn on when a notification arrives in Samsung DeX mode to ensure you don't miss updates from apps like Reminder or Calendar, which do not display notifications in full-screen mode.
If you notice multiple instances of the same app appearing in the Samsung DeX taskbar, it is normal behavior. Starting from One UI 8.0, this feature allows duplicate apps to be added to the taskbar (also known as the hotseat area), aligning with how your phone or tablet interface works.
DeX mode does not support full theme customization like your phone, as themes are not applied to the overall interface or system elements. However, starting from One UI 8.0, themes are partially supported and only applied to app icons.
In DeX on devices running One UI 8.0, display settings (such as position, resolution, and rotation) are saved separately for each connected display to accommodate different environments (e.g., home, office). This means that if you change these settings for one display, they will reset when you connect to a different display. However, the same settings will be retained when you reconnect to the same display.
Folder creation in the Apps menu is not supported because Samsung DeX has been redesigned to prioritize quick app access and a streamlined user experience. Instead, you can create and manage folders on your mobile device's Home screen, which remains fully functional. This design choice ensures a more efficient workflow while using DeX mode.
The ability to use the app layout and sorting configuration from your phone or tablet has been discontinued. This change is part of a new design concept aimed at optimizing the DeX experience for enhanced multitasking and streamlined functionality. Instead, the DeX interface follows its own layout and organization principles.
In Samsung DeX, running more than five apps simultaneously will result in some apps being minimized. This is because Desktop Mode is designed to limit the number of open apps to five at a time. If you exceed this limit, the app that was opened the longest ago will be automatically minimized to ensure optimal system performance and efficiency. This feature helps maintain a smoother user experience while multitasking in DeX mode.
Due to a new design concept focused on delivering a consistent and streamlined experience, apps in Samsung DeX no longer retain their previous size and position when reopened. Instead of remembering individual app layouts, the system resets app windows to default settings each time they are launched, ensuring a uniform and efficient workflow.
When you start Samsung DeX, any previously opened apps will automatically reappear. This is part of the new design concept, which includes a feature to remember and relaunch the apps from your last DeX session. It ensures a seamless and efficient workflow, allowing you to continue your tasks without interruption.
Apps opened on your phone or tablet outside of DeX mode do not appear in the Recent menu. The Recent menu on the connected display only displays apps used in DeX mode. Additionally, apps executed in DeX mode will appear in the Recent menu on your phone or tablet after closing DeX. This design maintains a focused and streamlined experience by separating the app history between your device and DeX mode.
The feature to select multiple apps by dragging with a mouse on the Home screen has been updated. Now, you can enter edit mode by holding down the mouse button, enabling you to select and manage multiple apps more efficiently. This change is part of the updated design concept aimed at providing a streamlined user experience in DeX mode.
