Use the Galaxy S25 Ultra's S Pen
Connect and charge
Your Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen does not support Bluetooth functions, and therefore does not need to be paired or charged. Simply keep the S Pen inside your phone when you aren’t using it and then remove it when it’s needed!
You can access the S Pen’s settings menu to adjust your desired features, such as launching the Air command menu, taking notes, or writing memos when the screen is turned off. You can also be notified if your S Pen has been left behind somewhere, so you’ll never accidentally lose it.
To find these features and options, navigate to and open Settings, then tap Advanced features, and then tap S Pen.
Air command
The Air command menu contains shortcuts to different apps and features that are compatible with your S Pen. To open the menu, remove the S Pen from your phone, and then tap the Air command icon (the pen) on the right side of the screen. Then, choose from the following:
- Drawing assist: Transform sketches into artwork, create images from text descriptions, or turn your Gallery photos into cartoons.
- AI Select: Select something on the screen and then draw on it, generate images, create GIFs, and more.
- Create note: Start a new note in the Samsung Notes app.
- Screen write: Write or draw directly on the screen.
- Translate: Translate text on the screen. You can select your desired language at the top of the screen.
- Magnify: Hover the S Pen over the screen to magnify its contents.
- PENUP: Create artwork and live drawings using the PENUP app.
- Write on Calendar: Write directly in the Calendar app.
You can hide the Air command icon so it doesn’t appear on your screen. To do so, navigate to and open Settings, then tap Advanced features, and then tap S Pen. Tap Air command, and then tap the switch next to Show Air command icon to disable it.
Air view
Air view lets you see exactly what your S Pen is pointing at by providing a preview. You can enable or disable this if desired.
- Navigate to and open Settings, then tap Advanced features, and then tap S Pen.
- Tap Air view, and then tap the switch at the top to enable the feature.
- Next, select Previews and pointer, Pointer only, or Previews only.
S Pen to text
S Pen to text allows you to write directly in search fields, address bars, and other areas that support text input. Your handwriting will be converted to text automatically.
- Navigate to and open Settings, then tap Advanced features, and then tap S Pen.
- Tap S Pen to text, and then tap the switch at the top to enable the feature.
- Tap the switch next to Show writing toolbar to enable a handy toolbar.
- Tap How to edit to learn how you can edit your handwriting.
Screen off memos
Screen off memos can be created when your phone’s screen is turned off. Simply remove the S Pen to begin writing a memo or drawing a picture.
- Navigate to and open Settings, then tap Advanced features, and then tap S Pen.
- Tap the switch next to Screen off memo to enable the feature.
- Next, remove the S Pen from your phone while the screen is off. Start writing or drawing on the screen using the S Pen.
- You can use the following options:
- Color: Tap the color circle to change the pen’s color.
- Pen settings: Tap the pen icon to change the line thickness.
- Erase: Tap the eraser icon to erase your writing.
- Pin to Always On Display: Tap the pin icon to include the writing or drawing on the Always On Display screen.
- Next memo: Tap the down arrow to add a new page.
- Save: Tap Save to save the memo in the Samsung Notes app.
- Color: Tap the color circle to change the pen’s color.
Quick notes
You can create notes at any time by pressing and holding the Pen button on the side of the S Pen and tapping the screen twice with the pen’s tip.
- Navigate to and open Settings, then tap Advanced features, and then tap S Pen.
- Tap the switch next to Quick notes to enable the feature.
- Press and hold the S Pen’s button, and then tap the screen twice with the pen to create a new note in the Samsung Notes app.
More S Pen Settings
Additional settings for the S Pen can be enabled, such as sounds and vibrations.
Navigate to and open Settings, then tap Advanced features, and then tap S Pen. Tap More S Pen settings and select from the following:
- Allow multiple S Pens: You can use another S Pen while your phone’s default S Pen is stored inside your phone. Keep in mind that this uses more battery power.
- Warn if S Pen is left behind: A notification will appear if your S Pen is left outside of your phone for a period of time when the screen is turned off.
- Sounds: Play sounds when the S Pen is inserted or removed, or when you write on the screen.
- Vibrations: Your phone will vibrate when the S Pen is inserted or removed.
