Design

The Galaxy Watch8 is Samsung's thinnest smart watch, yet. It also has a new lug system that allows for a much tighter connection to the watch band, providing a sleeker look and a better fit.

Bedtime guidance

Bedtime Guidance is the newest update to the Galaxy watch's sleep tracking feature in Samsung Health. After wearing your watch to bed for three consecutive nights, bedtime guidance will analyze your sleep data, including your circadian rhythm, to suggest your ideal bedtime so you wake up feeling the most refreshed. 

To view your sleep information:

  1. Open Samsung Health on your watch or connected phone, and tap the Sleep tile.
  2. From your phone, you can tap the three dots in the upper right corner of the sleep page.
  3. Tap Bedtime guidance to see your recommended bedtime window and recent sleep records.
  4. Tap the switch next to Bedtime notifications if you'd like to receive an alert when your recommended bedtime is approaching.

Running coach

Start the test

Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned runner, you can get personalized training plans and performance insights to improve on your goals using Samsung Health's Running coach.

To begin:

  1. Swipe up to open apps on your watch, and then tap Samsung Health.
  2. Scroll down and tap the Running coach tile.
  3. Tap Next
  4. This will bring up the terms of service on your connected phone. If you agree, tap Agree on your phone. 
  5. On your phone, enter your profile details, and then tap Next
  6. Tap Start on watch to begin your running test.
  7. Your watch will show you how to navigate the workout screen during the test. If you haven't granted the necessary permissions, it will also ask you to allow location access. Choose the permission settings you want, and then tap Start to begin the test. 
  8. A voice coach will tell you how to proceed. Make sure the volume is up on your watch if you want to listen to the instructions.
  9. If you want to cancel the test before its finished, swipe right on the watch screen, and then tap Finish.
  10. Tap OK to finish and exit the test.

View your training plan

Once you are assigned your level, you can view your training plan on your watch or on your phone.
 

From your watch: 

  1. Swipe up to open apps, and tap Samsung Health
  2. Scroll to and tap on the Running coach tile. 
  3. You can view your level information and test results here. To view your training plan, tap View training plan.

 

From your phone: 

  1. Open the Samsung Health app.
  2. Tap the Running coach tile.  Your training plan will be here. 
  3. To view your level's goals, tap View level at the bottom.

Antioxidant index

Antioxidants can help prevent chronic illnesses by removing free radicals, which are unstable molecules that are generated through natural metabolic processes. Your body gets antioxidants through eating certain foods, such as fruits and vegetables. 

The Antioxidant index is used to determine whether you're eating the daily recommended amount of fruits and vegetables. The level can range from 0 to 100, and is divided into Adequate, Low, and Very low.

To measure, you'll have to press your thumb to the sensor on the back of your watch.

  1. Make sure your watch is connected to a phone.
  2. Remove your watch from your wrist.
  3. Swipe up to open apps on your watch.
  4. Tap Samsung Health
  5. Scroll down and tap the Antioxidant index tile.
  6. Tap Measure.
  7. Press your thumb on the sensor on the back of the watch until the measurement is complete. You'll see the results on your phone, which will also provide an explanation of what your results mean.

Vascular load

Your vascular system includes blood vessels that carry blood throughout your body with the purpose of delivering oxygen and nutrients, and removing toxins. Tracking your vascular load helps to track your overall health and lifestyle habits.

To use this feature, you'll need to have your watch connected to a phone, and you must first set a baseline by tracking three nights of sleep.

  1. On your phone, open the Samsung Health app.
  2. Tap the Vascular load tile.
  3. Tap Continue.
  4. Read the information about vascular load, and then tap Done.
  5. To set your baseline, you must wear your watch to sleep for three nights within a 14 day period. On those three nights, you must wear your watch for at least four continuous hours each night. 
  6. Once this is complete, your watch will automatically track your vascular load. 
  7. You can view the data in the Samsung Health app on your phone.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is now on your Galaxy Watch8 or Watch8 Classic. Use it to help keep track of your mental health and practice habits that may help you reduce stress.

  1. On your watch, open the Samsung Health app. 
  2. Scroll to and tap on the Mindfulness tile.
  3. From here, you can tap Check in to say how you're feeling, add emotions to it, and add why you think you may be feeling that way.
  4. You can also choose to take a deep breath by starting a breathing exercise. To do this, tap Start, and then selecting the breathing exercise you want.
  5. If you want to set reminders for check ins, you can do so from the Samsung Health app on your phone. Just open the app, tap the Mindfulness tile, and then tap Set reminders. Tap the switches to turn on the reminders you want.

High Stress Alert

Note
You can only enable high stress alerts when continuous monitoring is selected. Manual monitoring does not allow for high stress alerts.

While stress tracking isn't new on Galaxy smartwatches, with One UI 8 on the Galaxy Watch8 series, you can turn on High Stress Alerts with continuous tracking.

  1. On your watch, open the Samsung Health app.
  2. Tap the Stress tile. 
  3. Scroll down and tap Settings.
  4. Make sure Measure continuously is selected.
  5. Tap the switch next to High stress alert.
